SUBJECT: HOW TO CALCULATE
BATTERY CONDENSER SPEED.
                                                                                                  

         THE COTTON ON THE SCREEN DRUM MUST BE THIN ENOUGH TO GET
THE AIR FLOW, FROM YOUR LINT CLEANERS THROUGH IT.

         IF THE BAT IS TO THICK, THE COTTON WILL GO TO ONE SIDE OF THE
CONDENSER, MAKING BIG ENDED BALES.

         YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE THE BAT BE UNIFORM ACROSS THE
CONDENSER.

         THIS CAUSES THE TIES TO BREAK ON THE BALE ON THE BIG END OF THE
BALE.

         THE PROPER SPEED FOR THE SCREEN DRUM IN A BATTERY CONDENSER
IS A MINIMUM OF 14 FEET PER MINUTE, AND A MAXIMUM OF 18 FEET PER
MINUTE, FOR EACH BALE PER HOUR THAT YOU ARE GINNING.  THIS IS FOR AN
UNDERSHOT CONDENSER.  

         BESIDES THE BIG ENDED BALES, BREAKING TIES, THE END LINT
CLEANER SPITES OUT COTTON.  THE BRUSH IN THIS LINT CLEANER WEARS
OUT FASTER THAN IT SHOULD, AND THE LINT CLEANER CHOKES UP OFTEN.

         YOU CAN PUT A BIGGER FAN ON THE BATTERY CONDENSER, TO TRY TO
SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WILL NOT SOLVE IT.

         THE BIGGER FAN CAUSES YOU TO HAVE MORE TROUBLE WITH THE
FLASHING AND DOFFING ROLLERS THOUGH, BECAUSE YOU RAISED THE
VACUUM IN THE CONDENSER.  SO THAT EVERYTHING HAS TO WORK HARDER
TO KEEP THE HIGHER AIR VACUUM SEALED IN.

         SPEED THE CONDENSER UP TO THE PROPER SPEED BEFORE CHANGING
THE FAN.

         A LOT OF COMPANIES ARE MAKING BATTERY CONDENSERS TODAY.  ANY
CONDENSER THAT IS BUILT WITH PERFORATED METAL FOR THE SCREEN
DRUM WAS NOT BUILT AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THE PERFORATED
METAL ON THE SCREEN DRUM IS SLICK AND THE BAT OF COTTON SLIPS AND
SLIDES ON IT’S SURFACE. THIS MAKES WADS AND THE BAT BREAKS COMING
DOWN THE LINT SLIDE.

         THE WIRE SCREEN USED FOR A CONDENSER DRUM, PREVENTS THE
COTTON FROM SLIPPING ON THE DRUM SURFACE AND MAKING WADS.
